Moving a safe or gun safe? We've moved hundreds.

A 24-gun safe can weigh 800–1,200 lbs. A jeweler's or home safe can be smaller but denser than anything else in the house. Both need equipment most households — and plenty of moving companies — simply don't carry. We do this constantly across Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

How it works

What to expect.

The Inland Northwest has a lot of gun safes, and we move them constantly — from starter units around 300 lbs up to 1,500+ lb multi-gun safes that need a heavy-duty stair-climbing hand truck and a minimum three-person crew. We also handle smaller but very dense home and document safes that don't look intimidating until you try to lift a corner. Gun safe moves are one of our most-requested services on both sides of the Idaho-Washington line — Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Airway Heights, Deer Park, Liberty Lake, Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, and Rathdrum all see steady safe-move demand and we've done hundreds.

The failure point on most DIY or under-equipped safe moves isn't the flat ground — it's the threshold, the single stair, or the turn into a closet. A safe that tips off a hand truck on a single step can crack a hardwood floor, take out a doorframe, break your foot, or crack the safe body itself and compromise the fire rating. We use ratchet straps, appliance dollies rated for the actual weight, stair-climbing hand trucks (not the $80 Harbor Freight version), and floor protection on hardwood, tile, and LVP. We walk the specific path from the safe's current spot to its new one before we ever start rocking it onto the dolly.

Common gun-safe brands we move across the Spokane and CDA area: Liberty, Fort Knox, Browning, Cannon, Winchester, Steelwater, AMSEC, Rhino, Sturdy, and Champion. Common weight ranges: starter 12-gun safes at 300-500 lbs; standard 24-gun home safes at 600-900 lbs; big multi-purpose Fort Knox / Liberty / Browning safes at 1,000-1,500 lbs; commercial-grade or fireproof jewelers' safes anywhere from 500 lbs to 2,000+ lbs. Weight tells us crew size and equipment; brand and model tell us the door swing, bolt work location, and where we can safely put straps without damaging finish.

If you're moving into a new home and want the safe positioned and bolted in a specific spot (closet floor, garage corner, basement, safe room), tell us in advance — positioning against a wall stud or on a specific floor type (concrete slab, joisted floor, tile over subfloor) can change how we approach the final placement. We do standalone safe-only moves all the time — you don't need to book a full household move to get us to relocate just a gun safe within town or across the Spokane-CDA metro. Common standalone jobs: moving a safe from a house you're selling to a new home before the household move, moving a safe out of a rental storage unit into a permanent home, or relocating a safe within the same home (garage to basement, spare bedroom to closet).

Coverage area for safe and gun safe moves at the same rate across the Inland Northwest: Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, Airway Heights, Medical Lake, Deer Park, Mead, Nine Mile Falls, and the West Plains on the Washington side; Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Dalton Gardens, Hauser, Athol, and Spirit Lake on the Idaho side. We also handle Treasure Valley area gun safe work when combined with a longer-distance move. No location surcharge across the Spokane-CDA metro; longer hauls quoted per job.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to move a gun safe in Spokane, CDA, or Post Falls?

It depends on weight and the difficulty of the path (stairs, turns, distance from truck). A standard 500-800 lb home gun safe on a single level with truck access is a straightforward flat-rate move; a 1,200 lb Fort Knox down a flight of stairs is a bigger job. Call or text 208-295-MOVE with the safe's weight, brand/model if known, and the pickup + drop addresses — we'll quote it specifically, in writing, before move day.

Can you move a gun safe up or down stairs?

Yes, with the right equipment — a real stair-climbing hand truck (not a rented furniture dolly) and a three-plus person crew for anything heavy. We assess the specific staircase, landing turns, and floor type before committing to a plan. Occasionally we'll recommend a different entrance (garage door, basement walkout, sliding door) if the interior stairs are too tight.

Do you move safes without moving the rest of my house?

Yes, safe-only moves are a normal standalone job for us. You don't need to book a full household move to get help with just a gun safe or heavy home safe — we do these constantly across Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

Will you bolt or secure the safe at the new location?

We can position it exactly where you want and secure it to a wall stud, floor joist, or concrete slab on request — tell us your preference before move day. If we need specific hardware (concrete anchors for a slab install), we can bring it or coordinate with what you already have.

Is a safe or gun safe move insured?

Yes, covered under our standard licensed and insured moving coverage. We can provide a certificate of insurance if your building, HOA, or new home closing team requires it — just ask in advance.

What gun safe brands do you have experience with?

Liberty, Fort Knox, Browning, Cannon, Winchester, Steelwater, AMSEC, Rhino, Sturdy, Champion, and most other major brands. Brand matters because it tells us where the door swings, where the bolt work is, and where we can safely put straps without damaging finish. If you tell us the brand and model we can plan the move better.

How heavy is my gun safe likely to be?

Typical weight ranges: 12-gun starter safes at 300-500 lbs; standard 24-gun home safes at 600-900 lbs; big Fort Knox / Liberty / Browning multi-purpose safes at 1,000-1,500 lbs; commercial fireproof or jewelers' safes anywhere from 500 lbs to 2,000+ lbs. Look up your model online or check the tag on the door; we can help identify it from a photo if you're not sure.

Do you move safes into or out of storage units?

Yes, safe-to-storage and storage-to-home moves are regular jobs. If you need climate-controlled storage recommendations for a fireproof safe, we're happy to share the local units we've used.

Can you move a safe from one room of my house to another?

Yes — same-home safe relocations (garage to basement, spare bedroom to closet, upstairs to main floor) are a common standalone job. Faster and cheaper than a full move, still uses the same equipment and crew.

Do you handle safes for pawn shops, jewelers, or gun shops in Spokane and CDA?

Yes, commercial safe and gun safe moves for retail locations are handled during your off-hours to minimize disruption. Same crew, same equipment, plus we bring COI directly to your landlord if requested.

What areas do you cover for gun safe moving?

All of the Spokane-CDA metro at the same rate: Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, Airway Heights, Medical Lake, Deer Park, Mead, Nine Mile Falls, and the West Plains on the Washington side; Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Dalton Gardens, Hauser, Athol, and Spirit Lake on the Idaho side. Longer hauls to Treasure Valley, Missoula, or Seattle are quoted per job.

How far ahead should I book a safe move?

3-5 days is usually enough for a standard local job. For 1,000+ lb safes or moves with tricky stairs, book a week ahead so we can schedule the right crew size. Summer books up fastest — don't wait until move week.
